Light for this scene is provided by a directional whiteish light above the image and a point light behind and above the image. This create interesting shadows cast by the pieces, which are soft shadows. The chess board is made up of 64 cubes. Each cube is inlaid with a sphere. The sphere's are texture mapped With daylight images for the white squares and night images for the black squares. You can see the effect of the improved refraction code by looking at the borders withing the cubes which are handled correctly. The pieces are slightly reflective and made up of primatives. There is a sieser triangle in the center of board showing our material interpolation and normal interpolations The reflectice sphere's show off our background mapping as well as showing the rest of the scene. The one on the left is bump-mapped creating a rough reflective surface effect.
