Skip and Bruno

CSE 456 :: Summer 2004

Armature: “Share and you will have more fun.”

Once upon a time there were two dogs who had become friends at the dog park. One was a dopey, large mutt named Bruno, and the other was a dominant little terrier named Skip.

And every day their masters would take them to the dog park, and they would play together with their favorite toy, ignoring the rest of the dogs. However, Skip liked to have more than his fair share of the toy, and every day he let Bruno play with it less and less.

Until one day Skip took the toy away and didn’t let Bruno play with it at all.

And because of this, Bruno started playing with all of the other dogs.

And because of this, Skip got lonely and regretted taking away the toy.

Until finally Skip went over to Bruno and the other dogs, and he shared the toy with all of them.

And ever since that day Skip and Bruno have been best friends, and they have fun playing and sharing their toy with each other and all the rest of the dogs at the dog park.

Beat Sheet with Sequences

Sequence I: INTRO (Introduction: shows that dogs do same thing every day)

• Skip and Bruno waiting, separately; both staring at clock
• Alarm goes off
• Dogs get excited
• Owners take dogs for a walk

Sequence II: PLAY(Day one at the dog park: shows what happens during a normal day at the dog park)

• Skip and Bruno arrive at dog park, with owners, separately from each other
• Skip and Bruno (and their respective owners) greet
• Dogs run off to tree
• Dogs dig up ball
• Skip gets ball first
• Bruno takes ball away
• Skip takes ball back

Sequence III: HIDE (Dogs hiding ball: shows how dogs hide the ball every day)

• There’s a whistle in the air, and the ears on both dogs perk up
• Skip and Bruno run together over to the tree
• Dogs bury ball

Sequence IV: DOM (Dominance at the dog park: shows that Skip doesn’t let Bruno play)

• Bruno and Skip getting the ball from the tree
• Bruno tries to take the toy away from Skip, but Skip runs off.
• Bruno catches up to him and tries to take ball
• Skip growls
• Bruno runs off, feelings hurt

Sequence V: FRIENDS (Bruno gets new friends: shows that Bruno will play with other dogs)

• Bruno is all alone
• Other dogs (not Skip) approach him
• They all play together

Sequence VI: SHARE (Skip shares with Bruno: shows that Skip shares the toy with Bruno)

• Skip looks sad as he plays by himself
• Skip looks longingly at Bruno and his new friends
• Skip picks up the toy and slowly walks over to Bruno and the other dogs
• With his head as low as he can hold it, Skip drops the toy at Bruno’s feet
• Bruno and skip stare at each other for a second
• Bruno picks up the toy
• Both dogs smile

Sequence VII: EPILOGUE (Epilogue: shows that all the dogs now play and share together)

• Zoom out and fade away on all dogs playing together
