CSE 456 - Story for Digital Animation

Assignment #3: Story Creation and Pitching

DUE: Tuesday, 7/9, class time

You will be creating another new story based on one from Assignment 2!

A. This time you will be incorporating your understanding of the concept of Personal Hell (based on our exercise in class) and clones (based on the lecture and examples in class) into one of the stories you created for Assignment 2. You will continue to work with the armature you selected from those provided and will re-create your story with the “seven step” structure.

Please use the checklist below to help you develop and refine your story idea:

  1. Is your armature statement a clear, full sentence?
  2. Does your story have 7 steps that follow in a logical order?
  3. Have you skipped a step or added steps?
  4. Is your armature proven? Is it clear?
  5. Is your story as clear and simple as possible?
  6. Is your story as visual as possible?
  7. Is your story best told as an animated short?
  8. Do you have only 2 characters in an interior set?
  9. Do you have only one set?

B. Tuesday, July 9th in class you will be pitching your story idea so you will need to be prepared! We will have actors in the class working with you on your story and they will respond to your pitches.  Please consider an idea that you can get excited about and can "sell" to your audience on in no more than 2 minutes. This will definitely take some practice. Please time yourself telling your story out loud in order to prepare.

As usual, please bring three printed copies of your newly created story to class and send your completed work to cse456-staff@cs.washington.edu and natcole@aol.com before class.
