CSE 456 - Storyreel and DVD Design and Production for CG Animation

Assignment #3

(due Sun. 7/09)

Here are the ten questions that I want you and your group to discuss and answer. Once you agree on the answers, please have one of the group members send it on to the staff alias ( cse456-staff@cs) and also natcole@aol.com and mones@cs.washington.edu. The numbers for each may not be the same as the order I gave you in class so please include the question and the answers for me :-) As discussed in class, these are due in to us by SUNDAY night ( tomorrow) at midnight. I'll be waiting by the computer :-)))) Thanks!

1. Can you provide a title with a better fit for your story and if so, what is it and why?

2. Can you provide an armature with a better fit for your story and if so, what is it and why did you change it?

3. Did you find that you needed to change/alter any of the seven steps you had already submitted? Please provide your seven steps, with any revisions.

4. Did you add your sequence names ( short but descriptive please) and tentative shot numbers? Please use the example of shot sequences and names that I passed out during labtime Thursday evening as your guide.

5. What are the three most significant story challenges you need to address in this current iteration of your story?

6. How did you resolve these three challenges? If you haven't been able to resolve them, what s getting in your way?

7. What three adjectives describe with the greatest clarity each of your characters? How can you use that information to help you further support your story?

8. Can you provide any Character Design ideas to us ? If so please send scanned compressed images for us to review ( in standard format). If not, please collect research that may be helpful in your later efforts for character design. Please remember to provide drawings and research images, etc with enough detail to be useful.

9. What are the roles each group member would like to take on? Have you covered all areas needed for the storyreel completion -- audio/ foley, story/storyreel/sequence&shot descriptions, boards, scanning, editing, simple character or prop motion? How have you distributed these roles and do you have regular meetings scheduled in order to collaborate on the project and iterate together?

10. Does your group have any hanging threads or concerns that we should know about in order to assist you with your work ?

Please remember that this is your opportunity to turn around whatever you think may not be an exciting story element to you and make it wonderful. It's a very important part of the learning process in this class to be able to find a way into your story and really relate to the characters and the armature so that there's real joy and passion in the product. If you do this, the audience will relate and sustain their interest. If you are having any trouble feeling a connection to your specific story, please get creative and think of using any information in questions 1-9 to make it into a story you can enjoy and be proud of. Sometimes ( often) the best stories come from circumstances where you must learn to look at the story from as many angles as it takes :-) We guarantee that there's great potential in each of the stories you are creating and they are coming along beautifully.

One last note: please remember that we're looking at an indoor setting so try to keep the action inside a room, etc. even if it is clear that there is an outside :-) Have Fun!
