CSE 456 Intro To Premiere
Summer
Quarter 2004
Creating Your
Storyreel
- Create a new project in Premiere using
the following settings (When you open Premiere, make sure you first
choose Custom at the window in order to create specified settings):

- General: Timebase:30; Time Display 30 fps
Non Drop-Frame Timecode
- Video: Compressor Sorenson Video 3; Frame
Size: should keep same aspect ratio as generated frames (e.g. 640x480);
Framerate: 30
- Audio: Use defaults
- Click "next" through the settings menu to specify other
preferences (note: you do not need the quality set to 100% for the reel
- 50% is fine. The higher the quality, the bigger the file will
be.)
- Import your sequence
- File->Import->File...
- Select the first frame in the sequence and check 'Numbered
Stills'
- Or (if Numbered Stills does not work *because that does
happen*) create a new folder with only the storyboard panels and choose
Import->Folder (This should import in all the panels in that folder)
- 'Open'
- the sequence will appear in the Project container
- if the import was done correctly, the icon for the
sequence should look like a filmstrip.
- Drag the sequence into one of the video channels in the
Timeline window.
- Make sure its left edge is precisely at 00:00
- Above all the channels, find a yellow bar with markers at
each
end.
- Drag the right marker and align it with the end of your
sequence.

- Import any audio.
- File->Import->File...
- Select the audio clip you want to import.
- 'Open'
- Drag the imported audio clip to an audio channel.
- Make any adjustments necessary.
- multiple sequences can be added to either video channel.
- to cut a sequence into two pieces (for compositing, or time
editing),
- find the Razor Tool in the toolbox in the left part of
the Timeline

- cut the sequence/file at the desired time position
- to change the length of a sequence
- find the Rate Stretch Tool (Click and hold the Rolling
Edit Tool to access it)
- drag either end of your sequence to change the length
- Timeline-> Preview
- If you have transitions in the timeline and would like to
preview it, you must preview it again. To include these
changes into your final reel, go to Timeline->Render Work
Area. (Your work area is under the yellow bar, which is
adjustable with the markers)
- If satisfied with the preview, export.
- File->Export->Movie...
- Specify movie name.
- If you completed the settings adjustments when you created a
new project, the export settings will default to these, so you should
be ready to export.
- 'Save'
