    The following was done using GIMP 2.0 on my Windows machine at home:

  • Step 1. Using the masks, I cut out the CN Tower and the Empire State building from their respective photographs and moved them to their appropriate locations in the final image (as well as resizing them).
  • Step 2. I recolored the buildings (lowered red/green values and overall saturation) to make them better fit the lighting of the skyline (in shade, rather than in sun).
  • Step 3. I then cut out the skyline's foreground using the first mask above, and pasted it over the added buildings (so that they would appear in the background).
  • Step 4. Finally, I cropped the image slightly to place more emphasis on the added buildings. The final result [1007x690] is shown below.
