My Mask(s)
Using my own implementation of iscissors, I created a contour of the entire forground of the image.

The Final Image

To arrive at the final image I followed these steps in gimp:

I followed the Gimp instructions to create a new layer and mask it to the artifact_mask I created with iscissors.

I scaled my image of curless and the mask up 10% to fill out the image better.

I then deleted Franklin from the hundred dollar bill by selecting an elliptical region and deleting it

I used this same elliptical region and added it to my artifact_mask

I changed the color scheme of my new masked image

I filled in the background with a grayish-green color
