My implementation of the Lucas-Kanade algorithm did not work as well as I expected. What I found was really useful in making the images align well is to manually stitch the pictures and use approximate displacement value for the Lucas-Kanade algorithm to start with.

The black bands are caused by the panorama shots not covering enough area. It's a lot more difficult to get good panaromas without a tripod.
