Original Images
To create my artifact, I used a screenshot of a scene from Rome: Total War, a popular PC game where Roman legions are attacking a rival fort. I also used a picture of the UW CSE building as well as the flag of Microsoft Headquarters.
Mask(s) made with iScissor.
Masks were then made for all three photos. They are depicted here. Scroll all the way to the right to see the mask for the flag.
Final Image.

The final composite shows a rather humorous scene of a Microsoft army attacking the UW CSE building.
To arrive at my final image I did the following steps in Photoshop:

  • Step 1: I first layered against a sky-colored background, the masked cutout of the UW CSE building.
  • Step 2: Above this, I pasted the scene from the PC game.
  • Step 3: Then I masked the Microsoft flag and inserted it into the scene as appropriate.
  • Step 4: I used image transform to resize the objects in a way such that they are somewhat realistic.
  • Step 5: Finally, I used the airbrush tool to add a little more smoke to the picture to give it more of a catastrophic feel. And yes, perhaps I had a bit too much fun with this.
