From zahorjan@cs.washington.edu Thu Jan 31 10:38:04 2002 Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 20:25:56 -0800 From: John Zahorjan To: cse451 Subject: midterm this week Yes, the first midterm is upon us (in class, Friday). Questions may cover: - anything from lectures - anything from sections - anything from assignments (including having put at least a few hours into the current assignment (but not advanced details)) - the book For the book, the relevant chapters/sections are: Chapter 1: all Chapter 2: all Chapter 3: All but 3.6 Chapter 4: All but 4.5.5, 4.5.6, 4.6.2, and 4.6.3 (meaning no questions directly from those sections; reading them may help understand other material, though) Chapter 5: Sections 5.1-5.4, and 5.7 (The same thing applies to the omitted sections here - they are system specific, and I won't ask about the specifics of those systems, but reading those sections at least once may help you understand the more general issues of the topics). Chapter 7: Sections 7.1-7.4 (yes, including semaphores). Read section 7.5, but if there are any questions on it's topic I'll at least define the terms on the exam. It won't be a programming exam, although that doesn't mean I can't have any code in the questions or that the most direct way to answer a question is sure not to be with a small amount of code. -j
