Project Description
This database would allow of variety of UW student organizations, departments and The Pipeline Project to post resources available to teachers and students in the K-12 community. We are gathering information under the following two main categories: We will be conducting a survey this fall to gather this information. The results will then be posted on the site.

We will request information from every student organization, post a survey through the advisers listserv, advertise in "The Daily" and utilize information gathered by the K-12 Institute here on campus.

We want this information to be made available to teachers and students in local K-12 schools.

Fields for student groups:

Fields for individual students: Ideally, I would like a teacher to be able to search by subject area and grade level to make a match for an appropriate speaker or organization to contact.

Project Description
We would like to create a database of teacher/classroom/school resources in the Seattle area that would allow UW students and faculty to search for appropriate contacts for volunteer positions, internships or research possibilities in the K-12 community in answer to the following question:

"Knowing your school as you do, what teacher or staff person would you identify as the best contact for the following subject areas:"

We will conduct a survey of volunteer coordinators, key teachers and principals. The information we gather will beposted on our website and linked to other UW websites that are engaed in K-12 outreach.

Project Description
We currently run several databases relating to different parts of our program. One that needs the most attention is our individual donor database. We gather information from individuals, other organizations and conferences to put into our database. We collect bio information (name, address, spouses name, organization, contact info) as well as info to establish a history of their support of our program.

Eventually we would like the database to direct the fundraising mailing we do and to allow us to screen out people who have already given, track those who have not by a certain date, and send a reminder. We would like to do queries that can give us all the donors in certain categories (regional, amount donated etc). We would also like this database or a parallel database to track in-kind donations and be searchable for the best targets for donations of things like: frequent flyer miles, food, printing donations, graphic design time etc.

People working on this project can do it entirely from the University and with very flexible hours. The service project supervisor (me) is available for meetings or phone conferences any time, and will try to provide clear information on what we want(though I'm not a database expert) with the desire to be well trained in managing the database at the end of the project.

Project Description
UW Volunteers was started to provide a central source on the UW campus for information about local volunteer activities and organizations that involve low-time or one-time commitments. UW Students are very busy people between jobs, classes, sports, etc. so volunteerism often falls through the cracks. UW Volunteers will hopefully give UW students the resources to find a volunteer activity that fits into their schedule and supports a cause they believe in.

Here are the things that we would like each entry in the database to be able to contain.

  • Name of the Volunteer Opportunity
  • Volunteer Opportunity Category (i.e. tutoring, environment, etc.)
  • Date of the Volunteer Opportunity
  • Time of the Volunteer Opportunity
  • General Geographical Location of the Volunteer Opportunity (i.e. U-District, Downtown, etc.)
  • Exact Location of the Volunteer Opportunity
  • Description of the Volunteer Opportunity

  • Name of the Organization
  • Description of the Organization
  • Organization's Website
  • Contact Person
  • Contact Email
  • Contact Phone
  • Contact Address

  • Annual Event (Yes/No)
  • Additional Notes
We need to be able to search by the following criteria:
  • By Date (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • By Volunteer Organization
  • By Volunteer Organization Category
  • By General Geographical Location
Ideally we'd also like to have a web based interface.
