Retirement home residents often struggle with social isolation and maintaining social connections, particularly those residents who struggle with mobility. However, lacking deep social connections can lead to a lower quality of life. While many retirement homes seek to address this need with scheduled events and social programs, residents facing physical impairments are restricted in the events they can attend and may be dependent on limited caretaking resources and therefore are often left behind.
Virtual Buddies addresses this problem by facilitating social interactions in VR spaces. With Virtual Buddies, residents are no longer restricted by caretaking resources or mobility and have the agency to socialize freely with other residents, friends, and family. Virtual Buddies prioritizes accessibility needs while facilitating social connections.
