It's Nice To Meet You Here in Seattle!
Tell Me More

Overview

Our design focuses on smoothing the process of moving to Seattle from a long distance away, by helping empower these new movers with the right tools for this process.

Main Landing Page

Multi-modal

Users with different needs are able to use the application in different way with totally different views displayed after ending the application.

Main Landing Page

Responsive Responses

New movers to Seattle are able to have their questions about local answered in a short responsive time; Local individuals are able to help those new movers by answering the questions and to win rewards with the points earned by helping them.

Main Landing Page

Simultaneous Group Search

New movers are able to look for local communities upon their interests to be better fitted in the city; local communities are able to advertise themselves by being active on the application.

Problem and Solution

Problem

Moving is HARD

  • Seattle has a rising job market and new people move here daily, many without any connections in the city, which can make this moving process incredibly difficult.
  • The 'Seattle Freeze' is a real thing that makes these people new to the city even harder to fit themselves in!

Solution

Having this platform that would allow new movers to communicate and build connections with locals

  • We are providing a forum for new movers to ask local-specific questions within the corresponding category and recieve answers from locals motivated by our gamification systems.
  • We are also providing interest specific groups that attract the new movers to join in order to be further connected and hopefully help smoothing their moving process.

Design Process

This section shows how we have chosen a design and how we iteratively refined the design.

  • Project Proposal

    April 8, 2016

Defining the problem that forms the basis of a design project and the problem we are tackling.

  • Contextual Inquiry

    April 19, 2016

Discussing the need of our users towards our design. We demonstrated the needs of people who might be using our design by conducting three inquiries.

  • Task Analysis

    April 22, 2016

Performing learnings based off the contextual inquiries we have conducted. We designed six tasks that we believed are intergral to our overall design goal.

  • Displaying an intial paper prototype for our design. It conveys all critical aspects of the design, including support for testing our two primary tasks.

  • Usability Testing

    May 17, 2016

Performing usability testings to our initial paper prototype design and make changes upon the reviews from the testings.

  • Final Digital Mockup

    May 25, 2016

Updating our digital prototype and make it looking more efficient.

Documents

Display documents created at each milestone with some crucial information

Initial Report

May 3, 2016

This report focuses the usage our design. We mainly discussed from the following four areas: contextual inquiry, task analysis, proposed design sketches, and draft scenarios

Intial Presentation

May 5, 2016

This presentation mainly focuses on introducing our findings on the Contextual Inquiry and introducing our design after all the research and analysis.

Final Report

May 28, 2016

The report documents our process of how we are getting the design right. It consits of our intial and final paper prototypes, testing process and results, and our final digital mockup.

Final Presentation

June 2, 2016

This presentation is to further introduce our process of getting the design for the project right. We are going through each crucial part of the prototype and introduce our testings, findings, and decisions.

Final Poster

June 6, 2016

A digital poster to include all of the findings and decisions, to provide key features, and to give a clear insight to the design process.
