Task 3

Use HomeSense when you're getting ready to leave your home to make sure that everything is as you want it (doors and windows closed, appliances off, etc).

  • Go ahead and click the "Ready" button.
  • Now click "To Leave" on the popup menu.
  • HomeSense responds by informing you of all the sensors around the house that are not in the customizable default position. The information is displayed in the left column.
  • There are multiple problems to be resolved.
  • Resolve these issues by manually walking to each door, window, etc. and closing it, turning it off, etc.
  • Once the problems are resolved, HomeSense displays a Ready message.
Some notes about the interface during Task 1:
  • Clicking on an item in the problem list on the left brings you to the floorplan for the room in question.
  • Clicking on red sensors displayed on the floor plans displays the state of the sensor.
  • The back arrow in the upper left corner can be used whenever it is showing.

You just got home with the groceries, late at night, and as you finally get inside and set them down you realize that you can't remember whether or not you closed the door of your detached garage. Not wanting to go back out into the dark rain to check, you use HomeSense to check the state of the door.

  • Click on the tab for the "Garage" floor.
  • Now click the "Door" sensor on the floorplan for the garage door.
  • HomeSense reports that you did indeed remember to close the garage door.

Your son stayed out late last night and you gave him a curfew of midnight. You needed some sleep for today, so you went to bed early, having planned on using HomeSense to see if he stayed out too late.

  • Click on the "Entry Hall" label on the first floor floorplan.
  • Click on the "Door" sensor for the front door.
  • Click on the "History" button to be shown when the door has been opened and closed.
  • You notice that he seems to have gotten home shortly after midnight, barely missing his curfew.
