Post a Ride

You're planning on traveling from you house on Capitol Hill in Seattle, Washington, to Electric City, Washington. You want to leave on Friday, November 27th, at 2:00 PM (today is November 8th). To help out with gas money and to keep yourself company on the long drive, you'd like to post the ride to RideAlong to see if someone wants to go with you. You have space for one passenger, and you'd like to get $15 from whoever rides with you.

Select the RideAlong application and use RideAlong to post your ride so that others users can join you.

Post a Ride

The page you see is the home screen. To get started, click the "Post a Ride" button.

Select Start and End Locations

The From and To textboxes allow you to specify where you're leaving from and where you're going to. Go ahead and enter your start and end locations.

Enter Additional Details

This screen allows you to enter specific details about the ride you're planning. You can enter the date and time when you're planning to leave, select the number of passengers and the payment you'd like to receive from each person, and attach an audio or text description to your trip.

To enter a date and time, click the calendar button.

Select the day and time at which you'd like to leave. You can select the day by clicking on the calendar. Remember, you are leaving on Nov. 27th.

Great! Even if you clicked elsewhere, the 27th is now selected. The time is already set to 2:00pm, so you are ready to continue.

Click "Set Departure" to confirm your selected date and time.

To select the number of passengers (one), select the leftmost passenger icon.

To set compensation, enter the amount ($15) in the textbox next to the "$" sign.

Attaching a voice or text message is required to post a ride. You need to give the users viewing your ride some kind of personal description. You can enter a text description or use the phone to record a short voice message.

To attach a text description (we won't attach an audio message), click the green "ABC" button at the bottom of the screen.

This screen allows you to type in a text description of your trip. Select the text area to start typing your message.

There! That was pretty easy, wasn't it? Go ahead and click "use message" to use this text message as a description of your trip.

Enter Additional Details

Now that you've entered a description of your trip and filled out all the other details, you can proceed with posting your trip.

Click the green forward arrow at the bottom of the screen to post your trip.

My Trips Page

Congratulations! You've successfully posted a trip. The trip is now listed on the My Trips screen, which displays all of your upcoming trips.

You're done with the task, but you can explore a little more from here if you like. Click on the trip to see the trip details.

Trip Details Screen

The trip details screen lets you view the details of a trip you or anyone else has posted. This is what your trip looks like to other RideAlong users. If you had made a mistake in setting up your trip (I made sure you didn't) you could edit the details of it here.

Map Screen

Whoa there, you seemed to have clicked on the map tab! While you could use this screen to find rides or look for other RideAlong users near you, the tasks we're helping you with don't use this screen.

To get back to where you were, click the green back arrow.

Profile Screen

It looks like you've clicked on the profile tab. That's a little self-absorbed, don't you think? The profile screen shows you how other RideAlong members see you. Your profile contains some personal information about yourself, your feedback from other RideAlong users, and the trips you're on or have completed.

We're not going to use your personal profile for any tasks. To get back to where you were, click the green back arrow.
