2 Jan 12: Recursive functions, looping, functional programming, referential transparency. Jan 14: Symbols, lexical and dynamic scoping, extent, local and global variables, LET, LET*, explicit application of functions,  closures, MAPCAR, EVAL. Jan 16: Pattern matching using Lisp. Association lists.
3 Jan 19: Martin Luther King Holiday Jan 21: String manipulation in Lisp.  hashtables, data structures in Lisp, File Input & Output. Jan 23: Introduction to knowledge representation.
4 Jan 26: Reasoning with the propositional calculus. Jan 28: Predicate logic and translating knowledge into it. Jan 30: Midterm exam 1
5 Feb 2: Predicate calculus resolution. Feb 4: Logic programming. Feb 6: State space search algorithms: depth-first search, breadth-first search, best-first search,  game-tree search.
6 Feb 9: State-space search, continued: combinatorics of a simple puzzle, recursive depth-first search, uniform-cost search. Feb 11: A* search algorithms, admissibility of A*. Feb 13: Genetic search.
7 Feb 16: Presidents Day Holiday Feb 18: Case-based reasoning; Feb 20: Probabilistic reasoning.
8 Feb 23: Review of searching methods (Also, a midterm review session takes place 5:00PM-6:00PM) Feb 25: Midterm exam 2 Feb 27: Natural language understanding: dialog systems, syntax, semantics, case frames, semantic grammars, augmented transition nets.
9 Mar 1: Perceptual processing: image formation, visual illusions, image representation, sampling and quantization. Image segmentation. Mar 3: 3-D techniques: stereo vision and stereograms; Shape understanding. Mar 5: Neural networks: perceptrons and feedforward networks trainable using backpropagation.
