Project Description and Assignments

Deadlines are tentative until assignments are released, but may be useful for planning purposes. See the course home page for links to the project/assignment dropbox for submitting work.

• MiniJava information
• Starter code showing how to get jflex/cup to work together
• Scanner - due Tue. Oct. 19 at 11 pm.
• Parser & abstract syntax - 15% credit for turning in complete CUP grammar specification by 11 pm, Wed. Oct 27; full assignment due Mon. Nov. 1 at 11 pm.
• Static semantics, type checking, and symbol tables - due Tue., Nov. 23 at 11 pm.
• Code generation - due Thur., Dec. 9 at 11 pm
• Project report and meeting - report due Sunday, Dec. 12 at 11 pm. No late reports accepted.
  • Project meetings: Please pick one 20-minute slot on Tuesday, Dec. 14.

• JFlex lexical analyzer generator and CUP LALR parser generator. We suggest using v11a of CUP since that allows Java generic types in semantic actions. JFlex and this version of CUP are included in the starter code.
• The Java Language Specification from Sun, including a LALR(1) grammar for full Java. Check here if you're not sure how something should work.
• Intel processor documentation.
• Gnu assembler documentation (x86 syntax differences from Intel)
