Computing

  
General Information:
  
     The   Math   Sciences   Computing   Center   (MSCC)   operates
     instructional  computing labs for the departments  of  Applied
     Mathematics, Computer Science & Engineering, Mathematics,  and
     Statistics.
     
     Labs  are  located in the basement of Thompson Hall.   Room  9
     contains   X-terminals.   Room  3  contains   Macs.    Student
     consultants  are  available  to answer  general  (not  course-
     specific) questions.
     
     System problems?  Contact MSCC staff:  C-28 Padelford Hall, or
     email staff@ms.washington.edu.
     
MSCC Lab Hours:
  
     Monday to Thursday:    7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
     Friday:                7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
     Saturday:              8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
     Sundays and holidays:  8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
     
MSCC Network Access:
     
     The    systems   are   available   via   rlogin   or    telnet
     (mscc.ms.washington.edu) at most hours.  Modem access also  is
     available; documentation is available at MSCC.
     
Establishing an Account:
  
     Login   as   newuser,  password  nevermore,  and  follow   the
     instructions.
     
Whether You Establish a New Account or Use an Existing Account:
  
     Register  yourself with the CSE 373 group by  logging  in  and
     typing the command register.
     
Unix Orientation:
  
     Should   you  be  new  to  Unix,  there  are  three  identical
     orientation  sessions, covering topics  such  as  logging  in,
     directories, copying files, printing, ways to get help, email,
     and editing:
     
     Thursday September 29:  2:30 to 4 p.m.
     Monday October 3:       2:30 to 4 p.m.
     Tuesday October 4:      1:30 to 3 p.m.
