Getting Help

If you have a general question that other students could potentially benefit from, considering posting on Ed! On Ed, you can also set your questions to private or anonymous as you see appropriate.

For logistical questions (such as extenuating circumstances and DRS accommodations), posting privately on Ed is the best way to ensure that you will receive a response in time and lets TAs follow up for you. For sensitive situations, you can also email Kasey and the Head TAs directly if you would feel more comfortable (please use your university email for all correspondence).

We are often available at other times by appointment, and we encourage you to schedule 1:1 appointments whenever you want to talk about concepts, grades, internships, or anything else.

Instructor

I was born just outside Vancouver, Canada. Moved to the Bay Area when I was 11 months old and then to Seattle when I was 7, so I’m about as “west coast” as they come. I went to UW for undergrad where I studied Electrical Engineering (embedded systems), but TA‘d 143 for 9 quarters, so I decided to go full software post-graduation. I have had a lot of different and weird tech jobs since graduation, but teaching is my true love, so I teach AP Computer Science A at Franklin High School in addition to 373 and my day job.

Let’s talk tech careers! Other less tech-specific obsessions: my 1969 VW bus, camping, Disneyland, drag & burlesque, training service dogs.

Favorite springtime drink: vanilla latte.

Hellooo! I’m a 3rd year in CS minoring in Music, and this is my 3rd quarter being a TA for 373.

I’m from the Bay Area, I love playing piano and drawing, I’m terrible at baking, and I can speak English, Indonesian, and French (learning Japanese). Please feel free to chat with me about anything and I’m looking forward to working with you all in exploring data structures and algorithms!

Hi y’all! I’m a senior majoring in linguistics and minoring in math and data science! I spent half my life in Bellevue, guess where the rest of my life was spent! I’m interested in doing NLP, so come talk to me about it! I binge Asian dramas and sing very quietly to not disturb my roommates in my free time!

This is the class to make friends if you need some bad data structure puns! Me and Iris (my co-TA) became BFFs from this class as we took it over the past summer and did every project together! Let’s have heaps of fun together! Pun intended! :)

Favorite springtime drink: Tall Hot Latte cause I only drink milk-based and I’m small (5‘0).

Hello everyone! My name is Hannah and I am a current fifth year Master’s student in Computer Science. I used to be in the Bioengineering and Statistics programs at the UW before switching to CS upon taking an introductory programming class. My primary areas of interest include computational biology and equity in computer science education. I have TA‘d for this course twice before and also have experience in teaching Python programming.

Outside of school, I am Co-Director for THE KOMPANY, the first and only K-Pop dance organization at the UW. I also enjoy watching Korean dramas, figure skating, and watching professional Valorant tournaments in my spare time. Feel free to talk to me about any of these topics, and I look forward to seeing you all!

Hey! I’m a junior studying Mathematics interested in Statistics and Data Science! I’m originally from the Bay Area in California, but I’ve grown to love the rain in Seattle :). Outside of classes and TAing, I love singing karaoke with Anna in office hours and while commuting to campus! I’ve also recently gotten back into playing piano, so if there are any songs or pieces you love to play, I’m up for recommendations!

I’ll be a TA for Section AE with Anna (my best friend I originally took 373 with!). We’ll be traversing through an array of topics this quarter, but we’ll get through them together (puns intended, I apologize in advance)!

Hi, I’m Kevin! I’m a math major that’s graduating this quarter, and I’ll be going on to work as a software developer in the near future! I’ve TA‘d CSE 143 the past two quarters and am really excited to TA for 373.

I’m passionate about problem solving and helping people out get ready for the software industry! This class covers a lot of topics that are both interesting and practical, and I know how the process can be if you’re not a CSE major. I’d love to chat and give any insight that I can, whether it’s for an internship or a full-time job!

Hi, I’m Maia! It’s been a while — I’m an outgoing senior, but I took CSE 373 with Kasey in my freshman year. We were the very first ones to occupy the auditorium of the then-newly-opened Gates Center (the only upside of an 8:30 class)!

For the past decade, I’ve lived all over the Pacific coast (Seattle, San Francisco, and a brief two-year stint in Guangzhou, China). Outside of school, I like to read long essays, discover new music, bike around the three freshwater lakes of the area, and annoy other TAs with urban planning hot takes.

Favorite springtime drink: hot water mixed with a tablespoon of honey, lemon juice, and whisky but only if you’re over 21 (h/t Chay from AMATH 351). Photo credit: Jinghua Sun, the best 143 TA.

Hello~ I’m a current 5th year Master’s student studying Computer Science and have lived in the Seattle area my whole life (mostly on the east side). I got into computer science through robotics (FIRST LEGO League, then VEX) when our entire team took an online Python course together as a “”bonding activity.”” I went on to take the AP Computer Science in high school and did my Bachelor’s degree here, in the Allen School!

After getting accepted to UW, my goal was to take at least one class in every major (I later realized there were too many different majors to achieve that) and have explored some pretty cool classes! I’m also involved in CSE‘s Student Advisory Council (SAC). As for hobbies, I enjoy playing music, graphic design, fabrication, exercising (haven’t done this in awhile…), cooking, volunteering, and trying new things (I’ll try almost anything once). Ask me about anything I’ve mentioned above or give me suggestions about what I should try next :) Always happy to chat about anything at all and meet new people so would love to hear from you!

Favorite springtime drink: water is a classic, but I also enjoy jasmine green tea.

Hi! I’m a senior majoring in math and minoring in informatics. I’m from Redmond, around 30 minutes east of Seattle and although I went to a STEM focused high school, I never took much interest in coding until college! I love this course because the theoretical aspects of 373 really helped me appreciate computer science more as a field and inspired me to consider it as a potential career.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, photography, and biking! Feel free to email me with any questions about the course or if you’d just like to chat.

Hi everyone! I’m from Toronto, Canada, and moved to Washington-State when I was in high school. We moved to Pullman, Washington (which is just on the border between Washington and Idaho) where I decided the rural life is not for me, and came to UW for college. So far, I’m absolutely thrilled to be a Computer Science/Data Science + Sociology double major at the UW! I’m really excited to spread the knowledge and TA this Spring!

Fun fact: I’m really good at Yu-Gi-Oh and I am a Guinness World Record Holder 😎
