  • Standard forms for a Boolean expression
  • Provide unique algebraic signatures for an expression
  • Generally are not the simplest form (can be minimized)
  • Derive directly from a Boolean function’s truth table

• Two canonical forms

  • Sum-of-products (minterms)
  • Product-of-sum (maxterms)
