Asking Questions, Getting Assistance, Giving Feedback

It is very important to us that you succeed in CSE 351! Outside of lectures and sections, there are different ways to ask questions or discuss course issues:
  1. Visit office hours (see Events above)! In addition, if you need extra time or need to discuss something in private, feel free to email and make an appointment.
  2. Make a public post about course content on the , where they benefit the whole class. If other students can answer your question, you may receive a response more quickly than you would by emailing the course staff. This is the best way of asking questions about homework, labs, and other class-related topics. Before posting, please search through the questions that have already been posted in case someone has already asked the same question.
  3. Make a private post to just the course staff on the with any questions or issues you would prefer to discuss privately. While you can email staff members individually when that makes sense, contacting the whole staff is generally preferred to get a faster response and to let the whole staff see what issues students are having. Alternatively, you may also send email to the staff email list.
  4. Send to the course staff. The instructor will try to address the issue and share it with others only as appropriate, but will not have a way to reply to you without addressing the whole class.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? WHAT WAS YOUR ACADEMIC PATH?
I was born in Bellevue, Washington and lived in Redmond for 13 years before moving next to the Lake in Sammamish, where I live now! I was fortunate to have attended a STEM-focused high school, where I took 3 CS-related classes that really piqued my interest in what's possible through computing! I also took a few engineering classes in high school, one of which I built a obstacle-avoiding robot car using Arduino, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever at the time. Fast forward a couple years from high school, and here I am now, more excited than ever to study Computer Engineering at UW (Go Dawgs)!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES, TALENTS, AND SKILLS?
I used to play a lot of badminton. I started playing badminton when I was around 13 years old in my second year of middle school. My parents encouraged me to find a sport to play, and after a few lessons at the Bellevue Badminton Club, I decided that I really enjoyed this sport! I never expected badminton to be such an integral part of my life. With some hard work and a ton of luck throughout the years, I attained a national ranking of #2 in the Boys Singles Under 19 category (ranked by USAB). I still occasionally play badminton here and there in college (check out Husky Badminton Club), and I'll likely be competing in Husky Open for the remaining years I'll be at UW. Definitely hit me up if you'd like to play some badminton with me, as I always enjoy finding new people to play badminton with! 🙂

Besides badminton, I also enjoy solving various puzzles, most notably the Rubik's cube! It's been sitting on my shelf for awhile now, but I used to be able to solve the 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and the 5x5x5. A long time ago, I also used to casually play chess. I definitely want to try getting back into chess sometime this quarter or in the near future!

HAVE YOU DONE OR EXPERIENCED ANYTHING REMARKABLE OR MEMORABLE?

  • I participated in several camping trips and outings in my time as a Boy Scout! Throughout my time as a Scout, I completed many fun merit badges and gained invaluable outdoor skills. Scouting has really helped reinforce my love for nature, which I've loved interacting with since my childhood. Perhaps the most memorable part about Scouting was the annual summer camps I attended, in which my troop and I listened to stories and sang songs in campwide campfires, competed in the Hullaballo (a competition between troops at summer camps), and absorbed the fresh air of the outdoors for a week. I also reached the rank of Eagle Scout in 2018, which will be an unforgettable moment in my life!
  • I love interacting with kids! I've volunteered in the annual Cub Scout Day Camp every year in my time as a Boy Scout. Watching their eyes glow as they hit a bullseye, complete an obstacle course, or eat homemade ice cream is just such a rewarding process! Over this past summer, I also served as an Assistant Instructor for the summer camp program at the Washington Preparatory School, where I had a similar opportunity to work with elementary-middle school kids. But this time, I guided them on building robots, creating animations, and building their own video games!

WHAT COMMITMENTS WILL BE CONSUMING YOUR CYCLES THIS QUARTER?
Besides serving as a TA for CSE 351, I'll be taking CSE 371 (Design of Digital Circuits and Systems) and CSE 421 (Algorithms) this quarter. I'll also be doing research in the Ubiquitous Computing Lab at the UW and working with UW ACM and the CSE Student Advisory Council. Being physically active under quarantine has been quite challenging, so I'll definitely be looking to get active by playing with/walking my dog (her name's Nemo!) and biking in the vicinity of my neighborhood. 🌲
