Welcome to CSE 322 (Autumn 2004)

In this course, we will explore basic concepts in the theory
of computing. We will study a variety of abstract computing machines
(finite automata, pushdown automata, and Turing machines) and
investigate the different languages that they capture (regular,
context-free, decidable, and Turing-recognizable languages). We will
also briefly visit the dreaded world of unsolvable problems. The
emphasis will be on developing a thorough understanding of abstract
models of computation and on being able to formulate rigorous
analytical arguments about them.
