Winter 2006 CSE Women's Seminar Add Code ApplicationCourse DescriptionThrough weekly group discussions, hands-on activities, and special guests, we will explore the stories of women who are at different stages of their careers in computer science. We will hear about and meet women who are currently majoring in CSE, as well as women who have graduated and are out in the working world, in graduate school, or (looking further ahead) women who are now computer science or engineering professors. Along the way, we will introduce you to the pioneering women who went before us, and hear the stories of Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, and other leading women of computing from years past and present. Meanwhile, we will catch glimpses of several areas where computing is put to use: from the sciences to the social sciences and even the arts. The breadth and versatility of computing will surprise you. Have you ever thought about medical school? Curing cancer? Maybe law school? Come find out how CSE can fit into all of these paths. Are you worried about whether this is really the direction you want to go? That is definitely okay since we are all in this together. If you join us with an open mind and a lot of questions, it is bound to be a great experience. |
