Final Options

You will work on either the project, or the portfolio. You will not be submitting both.

Final Project

For the final project, you will design and complete an original data programming project that demonstrates your mastery of course concepts. You’ll identify your own research questions, find and work with a dataset of your choice, and produce a data-driven analysis, visualization, or interactive application. Your project proposal will outline your research questions, motivation, dataset, chosen challenge goals (at least 2 from the provided list), methods, and work plan. This option allows you to explore a topic you’re passionate about, apply skills you’ve developed throughout the quarter to new material, and create something entirely your own from the ground up! You are encouraged to work with up to 2 partners for your project.

Portfolio

For the final portfolio, you will revise and extend the five creative components from THAs you completed during the quarter, so that it showcases your growth and best work. Rather than starting from scratch, you’ll critically evaluate your existing assignments, identify areas for improvement, and polish each piece through revisions. Your Vision Statement will outline what you’ve accomplished, what you plan to improve, your technical approach, and your work plan for completing the revisions. This option allows you to deepen your understanding of course material by refining and perfecting work you’ve already begun, while demonstrating how your skills and perspective have evolved over the quarter. The portfolio is a solo option and is not done in groups.

Submission

We will use Gradescope to submit the various parts of the project and portfolio. Note that the portfolio and project options will be submitted to the same assignment in Gradescope. For the project, only one group member should submit on Gradescope. You should use the Group Members functionality to add the appropriate partner(s) if you have them. If you want to learn about how to add Group Members on Gradescope, please see instructions here.
