The Elias-Net, My Super Cool Website

Hi! Thanks for clicking my website! My name is Elias and I am a 4th year Computer Science student here at UW. I would consider myself a Seattle local growing up in the Roosevelt area, but I also lived in Maryland until I was around 8 and still have family there.

Some of my favorite places in Washington are:

Ravenna Ravine

Mt. Baker

Mt. Baker natural halfpipe

Snoqualmie Pass

Magnuson Park

I also work at a ski shop and have been snowboarding for around 10 years. (If you go to Snoqualmie/Alpental or are in Husky Snow Club hmu!)

One of the coolest things I got to do is take a tour the Lib Tech and Gnu factory (Mervin Manufacturing) where they make all their skis, snowboards, and surfboards. I also got to meet Mike Olson who started it all!

Table made out of recycled snowboards

Table mad out of snowboards

Boards getting ready to be shaped (TRS & Golden Orca)

Snowboards lined up to be cut

Helpful CSE154 tips from my keyboard to your eyes.

Submit Early! The closer to the due date, the slower auto-grader gets :(

Linters suck but they don't have to.

If you write your code with linters in mind, it will save you a lot of time. Here are some tips:

  1. Read the Setup Guide & download the extensions
    • I also like the extension Auto Rename Tag, which renames opening and closing tags at the same time!
  2. Learn a couple vscode keyboard shortcuts!
  3. Give yourself around 30 minutes to work on your auto-grader tasks and make sure everything passes.
  4. You can submit as many times as you want to make sure everything passes, so do it often!

Follow what makes you curious.

A lot of the assignments in this class are opened ended and allow for some creative flair, so chase what interests you and go crazy.
