This Class

I took this class this past fall quarter (au18). Even though the pace was pretty fast, I learned so much through this class. It was a rollercoaster with many highs and lows, but in the end I loved it and met some amazing people. I am always learning and I hope I learn as much from you as you learn from me!

Tips and Tricks

General

  • Attend lectures! It really helped to just be there and listening
  • Attend sections and labs! Sections is where I was able to really learn the material, and plus you get to collaborate in sections and labs
  • Go to office hours and WPL! This was the first class I consistently attended office hours and WPL, and it turned the quarter around for me
  • It might be intimidating to reach out for help, but I promise it’s worth it and plus we’re nice

Homework

  • Start early, even if that just means read the spec a couple times even if you don’t start writing code. An early panic moment is better than a late panic moment
  • Psuedo-code is the best
  • Code outloud. It’s super helpful to just talk through problems

Tests

  • A practice problem a day really makes a difference
  • If you do enough practice problems, you will pick up the patterns
  • If you’re crunched on time, focus on the practice tests
