An example (and a story)

When my older son was in preschool, the school had a nutritionist come in to talk with us. He was an especially finicky eater, and I worried that he'd grow up eating only pasta and cereal, so I asked how I could encourage him to try new foods. She said:

"Kids need to experience a food 6-8 times before they will eat it."

She went on to say this could include:

  • Watching someone make it
  • Helping to make it
  • Seeing it on the dinner table
  • Smelling it
  • Seeing it on their plate, but not eating it
  • Playing with it
  • etc...
