You will need to install, at most, two pieces of software: The Java Development Kit (JDK) and the jGRASP editor or the Eclipse editor.

Some users already have the JDK installed on their computers, because of other software that they use that is written in Java. If you think this applies to you, you can safely skip the JDK section of this guide, although you may find that you need to come back and complete it anyway.

Eclipse is our suggested primary editing software for this course, and the editor I will be using for the most part in class. However, using Eclipse is not required and if you are more comfortable using jGRASP, feel free to continue using it. Short instructions for installing Eclipse are:
