CSE 130 Spring Quarter, 2009

Read Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3.
At the end of Chapter 2, do exercises 1 through 8.
At the end of Chapter 3, do exercises 1 through 13.
On the computer, using PixelMath, prepare your own version of each of the following effects. For each one, include the Source image, Destination image, and the formula used to produce it.
  • color to monochrome;
  • high-contrast B+W using thresholding;
  • minimum resolution (starting with an image having a periodic pattern, create a minimum-res version that preserves the fundamental frequency in the pattern);
  • Moire: show a low-frequency alias of a high-frequency pattern by undersampling the pattern;
  • brightening without wraparound
  • brightening WITH wraparound in the 0-to-255 pixel range.
  • brightness and contrast enhancement on a poorly exposed image, which can either be an overexposed or underexposed image.
    • Prepare your solutions as a document using one of the following: Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Open Office Writer. Submit your document as either a .doc, .docx, or .pdf formatted file. The document should be turned in electronically using Catalyst CollectIt.
