Instructor¶
Trien Vuong he/him/his
Hey y’all! My name’s Trien, and I just graduated with a BS in Computer Science from the Allen School here at UW. I first took CSE 123 in the first quarter it was offered (23wi), and I started TAing the course the very next quarter. While this will be my 13th quarter working with the course, this is my first time ever instructing the course so I’m super excited about it!
I grew up in Renton, Lynnwood, and now live in Mukilteo. In my free time, I mainly enjoy playing video games (currently League of Legends and friend slop games), climbing, and eating food. I have also (mildly) been getting into thrifting recently. I hope for a wonderful quarter, and I’m super excited to meet y’all! Please feel free to stop by and chat about anything!
Teaching Assistants¶
Cora Supasatit she/her/hers
Quiz Section: AE
Cora is a fourth-year CS major hailing from Renton, WA and this will be her seventh (!!!) quarter as a TA. When let out of her charging pod in the IPL, she spends her free time horsing around, strumming the guitar, and researching cutting-edge theories such as how much hair tinsel is too much. She is chatty by nature and greatly encourages any questions or conversation! Please.
Jonah Kowal he/him/his
Quiz Section: AD
Hey, I’m Jonah! :D This is my fourth quarter TAing 123 and I’m super excited to be back. I just finished my second year as a Computer Science major minoring in Urban Design and Planning. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of horror movies–let me know if you have any recs!
Maitreyi Parakh she/her/hers
Hi everyone! My name is Maitreyi, and I’m a senior studying Computer Science and Public Health. Outside of school, I love to thrift, hike, and watch movies. This will be my eighth quarter as a CSE TA (but my first in 123!), and I’m super excited to meet all of you!
Nhan Truong he/him/his
Quiz Section: AE
Wassup y’all! This is my first summer as a TA. My academic hobbies include trying to make rocks think, solve, and reason super-duper complicated tasks and my outside hobbies include hitting small-lightweight aerodynamic trajectories (birdies) around with my homies, look up at little bright dots in the night sky, and just walking around. Excited to meet you all!!!
Nichole Tian she/her/hers
Quiz Section: AC
Hello 123!! My name is Nichole and I’m a senior (😱) in computer science. This is my 6th quarter teaching 123, and when I’m not in 123, I’m one of the CSE 12x/14x TA Coordinators. I love listening to all types of music, learning and practicing American Sign Language, biking, running, and exploring new places! I’m always down to talk about any of these things (and more), so don’t be shy and feel free to reach out whenever :)
Shiven Friedeman he/him/his
Quiz Section: AC
Hey all! My name is Shiven. I’m not sure if I’m a Junior yet, but I think I am? Regardless, I love Brawl Stars, making coffee, and biking—currently training for STP, I’m so scared. This is my first Seattle summer, so if you all have any food recs, please let me know. Beyond that, I’m excited for this quarter!
Getting Help¶
Having questions or getting stuck on something is entirely expected in the learning process. If you find something challenging with your studies, that is a sign you are learning! Learning is not something that you need to do alone though! In fact, connecting with your peers or asking a member of the course staff for help can add extreme depth to your knowledge.
Outside of lecture and quiz section, there are three resources in this class specifically designed to answer your questions:
- TA office hours (the “IPL”) (synchronous, in-person only)
- Instructor office hours (synchronous, in-person and remote)
- Ed Discussion board (asynchronous)
Tip
A common misconception is that you can only go to office hours with specific homework questions. That is not true! If you have any questions about course concepts (e.g. from class that day), you are super encouraged to go work on that concept with a member of the course staff at office hours! Getting help with a concept earlier, when you first are feeling unsure, is much better than saving it until you need it on the homework.
