Hi all, I’m Miya! I’ve lived in various parts of the Seattle area for all of my life (Renton, Bellevue, Downtown Seattle) and now live in West Seattle. We’ve been considered a temporary island out here for the past 2.5 years as the West Seattle Bridge has been closed but it’s recently opened so we are happy to reunite with the greater Seattle area!

I graduated with a BA in Mathematics along with a BS and MS in Computer Science from the Allen School here at UW. I had no knowledge of programming or Computer Science when I started at UW, and only very reluctantly took the first Introduction to Programming class when pressured by my family to give it a try. When I enjoyed the class more than I expected, I went on to take the next class in the sequence and then became a TA for these classes the following quarter. I continued to TA for these classes throughout my undergrad and grad school. After I graduated I spent about 2 years as a Software Engineer at Microsoft on the Visual C++ Libraries Team before returning my focus to teaching to spend more time with you all!

Outside of teaching, I spend lots of time with my objectively-adorable fluffy tricolor corgi Gumball and enjoy experimenting with new baking challenges and cozy knitting projects. Looking forward to a fantastic quarter with you all - please feel free to stop by and chat!

Hey y’all! My name is Joe and I’m currently a 5^th years master student in the Allen School. Although I’ve been a TA for ~15 quarters (all for the intro series here at UW), this is my first time instructing which I’m super excited about! I’m Washington born and raised, originally from the Sammamish / Issaquah area for those familiar, currently calling Ballard home and surviving the commute it entails.

I was priviledged enough to have discovered Computer Science my Junior year of high school (IB kids represent), and ever since then I’ve been hooked. Lately, I’ve been most interested - unsurprisingly - in CS education and finding ways to distill the crazy buzzwords tossed around (machine learning, AI, computer vision, etc.) into easier to understand concepts for those mostly / entirely unfamiliar with CS (which is a particularly useful skill when trying to explain my HW assignments to my family of non-STEM majors). Outside of school, the last few summers I’ve interned for AWS and I’m returning as a full-time SWE there next fall. If you want to chat about interviewing for industry or anything else, I’m happy to give my two cents!

Unrelated to CS, I’ve spent a decent amount of time studying theatrical lighting design and have actually designed for a few Dance shows and School of Drama performances here at the UW. I also have been known to play a video game or two whenever I’m not drowning in assignments.

I’m super excited to get to know all of you, and apologies in advance for any mishaps that come along with my first quarter lecturing!

Hello, I’m Ailsa (el-sa, like from Frozen)! I’m a sophomore majoring in Computer Science, and this is my first quarter TA-ing. In my free time, I like to crochet, play video games, and read. Hi everyone, name is Logan, and I’m a third year studying Computer Science! This will be my 5^th quarter teaching Intro (wow has time flew by!) and I am excited to teach everyone important data structures and basic algorithms.
