Hi, I’m Brett! I grew up outside of Boston, MA and moved to Seattle after college. I earned my B.A. in Computer Science from Harvard University and my M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from UW. This is my seventh year teaching in the Allen School. Before I came here, I developed curriculum and trained teachers for Microsoft’s TEALS program, taught CS at Issaquah High School, and worked as a developer at Microsoft. Outside of teaching, I am a high school football official, a frequent volunteer at local FIRST Robotics events, and an avid board game and RPG player.

Hi, I’m Matt! I grew up in Japan and Toronto, Canada, and joined UW as a teaching professor last year. I got an M.S. and two B.S.’s from UCLA, where I studied a combination of computer science, math, and economics. My (relatively small) research background is in programming languages, which I’ve also taught (along with web development, data science & machine learning, and software engineering). My go-to “me” activities are listening to music, reading, and video games; recent favourites include Clairo’s Charm, Kazuo Ishiguro’s The Remains of the Day, and Lucas Pope’s Return of the Obra Dinn. There’s a lot I’m happy to talk about, from “computer science-y” stuff (e.g. getting involved in open-source or why I love programming languages) to completely unrelated things (like my opinions on rap producer tags). Don’t be a stranger!

*Note: my Monday office hour is a “drop-in” for all UW students, which includes both you and anybody else! But, it’s also in-person only.
