Assignment 0:  Treasure Hunt

Introduction:

 

This assignment is designed to help you become oriented in the course, its website, and various benefits provided to you by the University of Washington-many of which you will use throughout the quarter.

 

Using the course website as a starting point, find the answers to the following questions.  Submit a hard copy of your answers, along with the full, original questions, in class on Friday, April 5th in class.  

 

Please put your name, section and student ID number are included at the top of the page. 

Feel free to discuss this assignment on the class Bulletin Board -- short of giving away the answers, please!

Treasure Hunt Questions:

 

  1. What is your email address at the University of Washington?

 

  1. What is the class web page address?

 

  1. Secret message #1 can be found here.  What's the message?  [Try this on your home computer if you have one. If your browser complains, it means your computer is missing a free piece of software.  Figure out what it is and obtain it for your home computer.  It will be important for the course!]

 

  1. Give the web address of 3 helpful web pages listed on the site.

 

  1. Is your student web page enabled?  How do you know?

 

  1. Secret Message #2 will be sent by e-mail to all students enrolled in the class.  You'll know it when you see it.  What is the message?  [If you have not seen it by 5 PM on Thursday, there may be a problem with your registration or with our records.]

 

  1. What are the due dates of the various project pieces?

 

  1. What are the dates of the exams?

 

  1. When is the final?

  2. True or false: Students unable to take the final exam on the scheduled date may arrange to take it on another day.

 

  1. What lab section are you in?  MEMORIZE IT!  You will always need to mark it on quizzes, exams, projects, etc.  or you will lose points.

 

  1. What is your TA’s name?

 

  1. Which lab sections meet at 1:30 PM?

 

  1. How are assignments to be submitted?

  2. What is the reading assignment for April 8th? 

  3. When and where, exactly, is this assignment due?

  4. Do you get any free stuff by being in this class?

  5. Secret Message #3 will appear on the class Bulletin Board, probably on Thursday.  You'll know it when you see it. What is it?

  6. Type your full name into a search engine.

    c) How many of the hits do you guesstimate actually refer to you?
