This class is project-based, so most grading will be applied to daily
assignments and the projects. There will four short (15 minute) in-class
quizzes, and a final. There won't be a midterm.
Quiz dates are as follows:
- October 6, 2000
- October 20, 2000
- November 3, 2000
- November 17, 2000
- makeup quiz Dec 1 - see below
The Final is Monday, Dec 11, 2:30 in our regular classroom. We've got 110
minutes reserved for the final, but we intend that most students should be
able to complete it in an hour or less. The final may include questions
from all parts of the course. A good way to study for it is to review all
of the quizzes and mini-exercises.
Study Checklist for Final
Also see the lecture notes for the Dec 6 lecture (which is a recap of the
course).
Answer Key for Final
Grading for many of the assignments and project components will use a
ternary value scheme:
- 0 Not turned in, incomplete or unsatisfactory
- 1 Satisfactory; the requirements were met, perhaps very well
- 2 Outstanding; the submission was significantly better than expected

Makeup Quiz
There will be a makeup quiz, on Friday Dec 1, at the end of class. This
quiz is optional. The primary purpose is to provide a replacement quiz for
people who missed one of the regular quizzes -- you can substitute the
score on the makeup quiz for a missed quiz. However, students who took all
4 regular quizzes may take it as well, and then the quiz scores we'll use
to compute your grade will be the highest 4 scores out of the 5, throwing
out the lowest. The potential topics for the makeup quiz will be databases
(the material coming up), loops, arrays, procedures, and conditionals.
