I figured that it would be really cool to just make a bunch of shapes that have different transmissive and specular material properties and then shoot a silly amount of rays through them and see what happens, so I did just that! And I am pretty happy with the results. Thanks to adaptive super-sampling I was able to render this in 15-20 minutes at a depth of 8 with anti-aliasing bumped up to 6 for the max amount of subdivisions.
