Samuel van Hoogstraten

Dutch painter (b. 1627, Dordrecht, d. 1678, Dordrecht)
Dutch painter and writer on art. He painted genre scenes in the style of de Hooch and Metsu, and portraits. but he is best known as a specialist in perspective effects. One of his "perspective boxes" which shows a painted toy world through a peep-hole, is in the National Gallery, London. Only in his early works can it be detected that he was a pupil of Rembrandt. Hoogstraten travelled to London, Vienna, and Rome, worked in Amsterdam and The Hague as well as his native Dordrecht, and was a man of many parts. He was an etcher, poet, director of the mint at Dordrecht, and art theorist. His Inleyding tot de hooge schoole der schilderkonst (Introduction to the Art of Painting, 1678) contains one of the rare contemporary appraisals of Rembrandt's work.

Some texture maps

Analysis

Most of the image came out all right. At first I was getting a very small texture map, and the model did not look correct. So I changed my reference points' measurement to scale the X,Y,Z measurements. The texture maps also came out in different orientations, and the model was expecting them in those orientation, and it made editing the textures hard. Another problem that I had was deleting the old points. Even after I deleted the lines and the polygons attached to the point, I could not get rid of it. So my image has a ton of extra points that I don't use. They get in the way all the time. The texture maps looked better after that. There were some problem with reference points. I was thinking about modeling the birdcage and the arch in the front of the image. But, I could find no reference point on the ground, and I didn't design the interface to account for multiple reference planes. I also tried to use magic scissor on the broom in the front of the image. It turned out a little sloppy, I wasnt able to get rid of all the white background with gif transparency. If I had a little more time, I would try to model the arch and the birdcage, and maybe finish the stairs in the image. I would also try to clean up the texture maps a little more.
num of points: 85
