Subwebs
For phase II (and III) of the project you should create a subweb for your group and put your projects under this subweb. A subweb is a website that exists under the parent website but can its own settings/permissions, etc. The following are the steps that your group should take to create a subweb:
- Use Microsoft Windows Remote Desktop utility to connect to iisqlsrv.cs.washington.edu.
- On the desktop there should be an icon for Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Double click that and navigate to Internet Information Services -> IISQLSRV -> Web Sites -> Default Website.
- Right click on Default Website and select New -> Server Extensions 2002 Web.
- This will open a page where you enter the name of the subweb (this should be the same name as your group name) and set the administrator (you can just select the "Use same permissions as parent web"). Do that and click submit.
- Close and reopen the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. You should now be able to navigate to Internet Information Services -> IISQLSRV -> Web Sites -> Default Website and see the subweb you just created.
- Right click on the new directory (that is the same name as your group/subweb name) in the IIS MMC and click Properties. Click the Create button.
Now, when you guys start working/making your project in Visual Studio .NET, be sure that when you specify the new project you now say that the location is http://iisqlsrv/<your subweb/group name>/<the project name>. This will put the new project under the subweb. From the internet you will also be able to view your new project from this location.
