To help Seattle high schools battle attendance issues, we propose to enhance the current high school attendance interface by adding tools and analytics that will help with classroom engagement. A communication platform enables teachers to send encouraging messages or reminders to students. In addition, an analytics platform allows teachers to explore engagement data and view classroom trends.

Contextual Inquiry Image
Using the master-apprentice model we observed a Seattle high school attendance office using the current attendance system, and interviewed a teacher and MESA leaders to learn about student engagement.
Task Analysis Image
Taking a look at our proposed application, we narrowed down and refined key scenarios and functionalites we wanted to support. Then, we began initial brainstorming on our interface design for how users would navigate our application or complete those tasks.
Video Report Image
This report covers interesting details about making our video prototype. Learn how we made it, what techniques worked well for use, and what sort of difficulties we encountered.
Low Fidelity Prototype Image
With paper prototyping methods, we were able to test our application with real high school teachers. Their experiences, intuitions, and feedback were a great help in fixing usability issues and improving our design.
Interactive Prototype Image
Be sure to check out our interactive prototype! This report describes how we built it, what tools we used, how we balanced implementation and efficiency, and how we relate it back to our tasks.
