For the spring quarter, 2021, students will complete quiz each week. These quizzes will normally be found on Canvas (but look carefully for instructions in case of modification), and will be due the Sunday following the evaluated week. The weekly check-ins are designed to evaluate how well students understand the material presented the previous week. You should complete your assignment on your own, but you are encouraged to test solutions before submitting your quiz. (For example, if the quiz asks for a line of code to perform an action, test your code in your home environment to be sure it works before submitting the quiz.) Most of these quizes will allow for multiple attempts.
Grading: In total the weekly quizzes will be worth 25% of your final grade, and all will contribute approximately equally to this final score. There may be some small variation based on the difficulty of the evaluation.
Late Policy: Weekly Quizzes must be submitted on-time, no late quizes are accepted.
Grading: Homework assignments collectively will be worth approximately 65% of your course grade. In principal, all homeworks contribute equally to the 60%, but larger programming projects will be weighed somewhat more than others.
Extra credit: If there is extra credit on an assignment, it will be provided for extra challenge and have a modest impact on your final grade. You should not attempt the extra credit until you have finished the rest of an assignment. We will ignore extra-credit work on assignments that are not at least "almost perfect" otherwise.
Homework assignments that are late by up to four days will be graded with a penalty of 20% for each day. (For example, an assignment turned in 12-24 hours after the submission deadline will be considered one day late. You will receive a grade equal to 80% of the grade merited by the work. 24-48 hours will receive a grade equal to 60% of the earned grade, etc. An assignment received five or more days after the due date will not be graded and will earn a grade of zero.)
Additionally, each student will receive three "late days". In order to use your late day you will note that you wish to use one, and the clock for the above penalties will start 24 hours after the submission deadline.
Integrity: Any attempt to misrepresent the work you submit will be dealt with via the appropriate University mechanisms. Guidelines for academic integrity may be found on this CSE site. Note, additionally, that cheating on check-ins or homeworks will hinder your own ability to understand the material in this course.
