Textbooks, etc.
There is no required textbook for the course, but you may find these resources useful.
- Probability and Statistics with Applications to Computing by Alex Tsun (free online). This book was written as lecture notes for this course (by another course instructor). So it will cover (almost exactly) the content we need in the order we need it.
- Probability and Computing: randomized algorithms and probabilistic analysis by Mitzenmacher and Upfall (UW's math library has a copy); good if you're looking for an alternative explanation, more rigorous proofs, or more practice problems
- Introduction to Probability by Bertsekas and Tsitsiklis (UW libraries have copies); good for a non-CS-specific introduction to probability
